I'm in my second year as an AmeriCorps VISTA Member, serving with a local non-profit dedicated to providing affordable, sustainable low-income housing and related services. My position is focused on community programs such as after school tutoring and mentoring, career development, blockwatch and neighborhood safety, and links to social services. Our organization also provides extensive education and support on subjects such as foreclosure prevention, homebuyer education, financial fitness, and home maintenance free to the public. Our communities and single-family homes accommodate over 6,000 residents, including nearly 4,000 children and feature public meeting spaces, community gardens, playgrounds, and an variety of modern, progressive "green" design elements and materials.
